Bringing the joy of movement to older adults

Moving Connections, a wellness program of Verb Ballets, is a movement workshop designed for older adults 50 and over to encourage creativity, engage social interaction and deepen an appreciation of the arts through the joy of movement. Led by professionally trained dancers and movement experts, Moving Connections help older adults develop flexibility, increase breath, exercise concentration that connects mind to body and increase cognitive function. The program is designed for all ability levels and can be done while seated. The program has been featured in The Plain Dealer as an excellent example of how local dance companies are reaching out to the community.

If you have any questions on how to bringing Moving Connections to your  group call Desmond Davis, Education + Outreach Coordinators at 216-397-3757 or email.

Building Community through Movement

The program has been used in the community to bring together older adults to find a new love of movement to promote wellness. Verb Ballets is able to connect Moving Connections with the community through the support of a grant from the Ohio Arts Council.

Moving Connections was grooving today. Special thanks to the Akron Art Museum for opening their doors and Ohio Arts Council for supporting this program for the community!

I am forever grateful on behalf of my residents and their families. There were such amazing smiles and beautiful movements going on!

Nursing HomeCaretaker

It brings great joy as our residents reminisce through different phases of music, exercise and dance.

Nursing Staff

I liked the instructors and the easy-going method of teaching. Also the fact that they described each movement with the proper dance terms, so that we learn the correct names of the movements. They were non-judgmental and I enjoyed every class.

Movement for Everyone

Verb Ballets has expanded this increasingly popular movement program to a tri-county area in Ohio to include Lorain and Summit counties. The program provides older adults with an opportunity to observe and experience new ways of moving, regardless of personal limitations. It has been particularly helpful in building community and in giving Alzheimer’s patients a new avenue for connecting with friends, family, caregivers and facility staff as well as others.
