Award winning choreographer, Dianne McIntyre brings the stories of Cuban seniors to life

Verb Ballets has had the honor of working this spring with guest choreographer and multi-award winning local artist Dianne McIntyre. Her career spans four decades with choreography for dance, theatre, television and film. In January she participated in the Cleveland Foundation Creative Fusion Cuba Edition in the tour to Cuba with Verb Ballets and five other Cleveland organizations. While in Cuba she gathered the personal life stories of several older adults. Upon returning to Cleveland she began working with Verb Ballets to create dances to tell the stories of these amazing individuals. Verb Ballets + Body EDT at DanceWorks 2017

Returning from its two week international tour to Taiwan, Verb Ballets features a shared program with Taiwanese dance company BodyEDT for DanceWorks 2017 presented by Cleveland Public Theatre. Verb Ballets' presents a dynamic evening of works by company dancers Michael Hinton and Antonio Morillo. Lee Ming-Cheng, Artistic Director and Creator of Body Expressions Dance Theatre (BodyEDT) will present the United States premiere of Initial- Space Starting combining movement with installations, digital, technology, and instrumental music.

Verb Ballets First International Tour to Taiwan 

Verb Ballets embarked on their first international tour to Taiwan April 10-April 24, 2017 through the support of the Cleveland Foundation's Creative Fusion program. During the two week tour, the company will reunite with choreographer Lee Ming-Cheng and Taiwanese dance company, BodyEDT. The two dance companies will then perform a shared program at the National Theatre & Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan for four performances running April 21-23, 2017. While on tour, the dancers will be conducting outreach in local schools.

Verb Ballets' Carnival of the Animals Family Matinee

Verb Ballets announces a family matinee performance of The Carnival of the Animals on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 3:00pm. This ballet is perfect for younger children and will bring a whimsical menagerie of animals to life. Verb Ballets’ Associate Director and choreographer, Richard Dickinson, has taken the music of Camille Saint-Saens to tell the story through movements inspired by the animals. The animals learn to appreciate each other’s differences as the beautiful Swan teaches lessons in friendship and acceptance of others who might be different from ourselves.

It is with honor that Verb Ballets hosts dance legend Laura Alonso for a two month residency through The Cleveland Foundation Creative Fusion: Cuba Edition. Laura Alonso, is the daughter of world famous Cuban ballerina Alicia Alonso and herself a renowned ballet teacher with a 25-year career performing with Ballet Nacional de Cuba.

Verb Ballets continues the legacy of Heinz Poll, founder of Ohio Ballet, at the Akron Civic Theatre on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 8:00pm. Verb Ballets will showcase new ballets inspired by Poll’s choreography with a company premiere by former principal with Ohio Ballet, Andrew Carroll and Verb Ballets' dancer, Michael Hinton. Creative Fuion: Cuba Edition

The Cleveland Foundation’s Creative Fusion international artist residency program will bring a group of Cuban artists to Cleveland this spring for a cultural exchange with local artists and the Greater Cleveland community. The multidisciplinary cohort includes internationally celebrated artists showcasing the best in architecture, design, printmaking, photography/mixed media, the written word, ballet and modern dance. Verb Ballets dancer selected to premiere work at Next@Graham in NYC

A new work by Verb Ballets dancer, Antonio Morillo, was selected by the Martha Graham Company for the Next@Graham Studio Series. The company will debut the work on January 4, 2017 at 8:00pm at the Graham Studio Theater in NYC.  Six other national companies and Graham Alumni, Pascal Rioult/RIOULT Dance NY will appear on the program. This series is the latest addition to the dynamic Martha Graham Studio Series curated by Tadej Brdnik which showcases the work of Graham Family and Graham Alumni. The application process was opened world wide and Morillo’s work plus six other Graham Alumni Artists/Companies including Ariel Rivka Dance, Hyphen/Catherine Cabeen, Karlie Budge, MMC Dance Company, Nimbus Dance Works, and SMU Meadows Dance Ensemble were selected.

Verb Ballets 2016–17 Season Kicks off 30th Anniversary Company Celebration

Verb Ballets, under the direction of Dr. Margaret Carlson, Producing Artistic Director, and Richard Dickinson, MFA, Associate Director, presents dynamic programming for the 2016–17 season through bold artistry, unique style, and technical excellence. Verb Ballets begins its 30th Anniversary Celebration in 2017. The company has an exciting line-up of main-stage performances throughout Northeast Ohio and continues the Ballet Up-Close in-studio series to engage audiences in the creative process. For the second year, Ohio Dance Theatre in collaboration with Verb Ballets presents The Nutcracker at Stocker Auditorium, Lorain, Ohio. Verb Ballets continues the legacy of Heinz Poll with Work Reimagined at the Akron Civic Theatre, featuring new ballets inspired by Poll’s choreography as well as restagings of his classic works. The company begins its 30th Anniversary Celebration, which will continue through 2017, with a performance at the Breen Center, highlighting audience favorites and premieres. In April, the company tours to Taiwan for the Mix + Multi Arts Festival. The season culminates May 11–13 when the company teams up with the Taiwanese company Expression Dance Theater (Body EDT) for a shared program at Cleveland Public Theatre. Verb Ballets is proud to welcome New York based choreographer Roger C. Jeffrey in studio the week of July 5-9, 2016 to create a new work on the company. Jeffrey has performed with Bernice Johnson, Twyla Tharp, Lar Lubovitch, and with Mikhail Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Project, among others. Jeffrey is a graduate of Juilliard that has danced and choreographed nationally and internationally. Verb Ballets is proud to welcome national choreographer Charles Anderson in studio the week of June 27-July 1, 2016. Anderson is a former member of New York City Ballet and has become one of the leading forces of the San Francisco Bay Area contemporary dance movement. Anderson began choreographing ballets while still a dancer with the New York City Ballet, and he co-founded and acted as artistic director for Ballet, Inc. in New York, where he choreographed many of his early works. Adult community dancers share their love of dance with seniors

A group compromised of nine adults over age forty have rekindled an appreciation of dance and want to share their love of movement with local seniors. The AdVerb Project, a community extension of Verb Ballets, is a group comprised of local adults taking ballet classes at the Verb Ballets studio in Shaker Heights. The AdVerb Project developed out of adult learners looking to experience what it is like to be a professional dancer and to learn to perform. In an effort to give back to the community The AdVerb Project will be performing for seniors at local nursing homes over the next five weeks. Verb Ballets fulfills wish of 5 year old heart transplant recipient to become a ballerina in production of Peter Pan

Verb Ballets and A Special Wish Foundation Cleveland Chapter (ASW) are working together to make Hope’s dream of becoming a ballerina come true. Hope was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and received a heart transplant at the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital. After a long recovery she is doing amazingly. Together will grow classical ballet and contemporary dance in Northeast Ohio 

Verb Ballets and Ohio Dance Theatre are pleased to form a new cross-county strategic alliance for the 2015-16 season. Verb Ballets and Ohio Dance Theatre, based in Lorain County, will work in partnership to sustain and grow classical ballet and contemporary dance in Northeast Ohio by presenting a high quality product through an increase in resources and talent. The two professional organizations will work in  partnership for the production of Denise Gula's, The Nutcracker at the Stocker Arts Center running December 18-20, 2015. The two organizations will maintain independent 501c3 and work in partnership to maximizing work opportunities for dancers regionally in Ohio.
