Verb Ballets 30th Anniversary Celebration Performance

CLEVELAND, OH - Verb Ballets launches its year long 30th Anniversary celebration! Over the years the company’s style has evolved and garnished praise and enthusiasm from audiences and critics alike. This extraordinary evening of programming showcases a rich and powerful assortment of works within the Verb Ballets repertoire along with exciting new premieres. Featured will be the new ballet, Appropriated Memories, by Anthony Krutzkamp that melds classical form with innovation to create fresh contemporary movement. A highlight of the show will be the company premiere of the Don Quixote Grand Pas de Deux, staged by dance legend Laura Alonso, Cleveland Foundation Creative Fusion Artist: Cuba Edition.
Laura Alonso, daughter of world famous Cuban ballerina Alicia Alonso, began a two month residency with Verb Ballets in February through The Cleveland Foundation's Creative Fusion: Cuba Edition. Laura Alonso, a renowned ballet teacher with a 25-year career performing with Ballet Nacional de Cuba has been training the Verb Ballets dancers and will debut the amazing exchange of dance technique and styles as the company performs Don Quixote Grand Pas de Deux. Verb Ballets is grateful for the support of The Cleveland Foundation in making this residency possible. This is likely the first-of-its-kind exchange connecting cultural institutions of a major Midwestern city with a selection of celebrated Cuban artists for an extended project-based residency.
Anthony Krutzkamp returned to Verb Ballets to create a new company ballet in honor of the 30th Anniversary season. Krutzkamp danced as a principal dancer with Cincinnati Ballet and Kansas City Ballet and is now the co-artistic director of Kansas City Dance Festival. His work has garnished the praise of critics for producing well crafted contemporary ballet. The stylized mix of ballet and contemporary movement is a perfect fit for the company.
Founded by Susan Miller the company began as The Repertory Project in 1987. Dr. Margaret Carlson, Verb Ballets' Producing Artistic Director, has been with the company almost 15 years.  The company has steadily grown over the past three decades contributing to the cultural landscape of Northeast Ohio. And for the first time, the company will embark on its first international tour in April to Taiwan. As one of the oldest dance organizations in Cleveland we are proud to produce high caliber work and continue to connect with communities across a four county reach.
In honor of the 30th Anniversary season, Verb Ballets will celebrate the people that have come to impact Verb Ballets' history. At the performance the company will honor Art Thomas, M.A., Facility Manager of the Breen, and the St. Ignatius High School. The performance extends a free dessert reception at intermission as a special thank you to our patrons.
