Tom Evert
Tom Evert (Choreographer) A native of Ohio, Tom holds degrees in both painting and dance from Ohio University. Upon graduation he moved to New York City to apprentice with The Murray Louis and Alwin Nikolais Dance Companies. From 1975-77 toured as a dancer and “teaching artist” with the Phyllis Lamhut Dance Company. His critical acclaim and maturity as a performing artist, however, developed while performing and touring nationally and internationally with "The Paul Taylor Dance Company" in NYC for eight years (1977-1985). In 1986 he founded the "Tom Evert Dance Company" (currently DANCEVERT), for which he has created a major body of work for which he has received Six Fellowships for Excellence in Choreography from the Ohio Arts Council and one from The Arts Council of Fairfax County. The company, DANCEVERT, which Tom co-directs with his partner/spouse Susana Evert, presents performances, has toured extensively and is dedicated to outreach and collaborative community projects. He has been on numerous dance faculties including: Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Lake Erie College, Cleveland State University, the University of Akron, The Hong Kong Academy of the Arts, The Paul Taylor Company in New York City, Cleveland San Jose Ballet, The Beck Center for the Arts, Ohio Northern University, Denison University among many others. Tom is dedicated to Arts education programming in the schools and serves on the Rosters of Young Audiences Inc., The Ohio Arts Council, Kennedy Center of Wash. DC and Very Special Arts Ohio where DANCEVERT offers in-school assembly performances, residencies, and professional development workshops for teachers.
