These
collections of significant, major, and celebrated dances have made an
impact to dance history. Works by 20th Century Modern Dance masters are
revived, honored and presented.
Contemporary
and Emerging Artists
Works by living, working choreographers fuel the advancement of the art
form. The company continues to promote contemporary artists and foster
emerging talent.
Fresh
Inventions
A new program of Verb Ballets designed to foster emerging choreographic
talent from within the company, Fresh Inventions provides selected emerging
choreographers the opportunity to create works on the Verb Ballets company
under the mentorship of seasoned professional artists.
Fresh Inventions premiered at the Cleveland Public Theatre in September
2004.
Resident
Choreographer Collections
Artistic Director Hernando Cortez presents a vast and eclectic repertory
of his own. These include world-fusion dances, Planet Soup and EarthBeat,
the acclaimed Two Hours that Shook the World (a dance and visual reflection
on 9/11), lyrical and romantic works such as Chichester Psalms (set to
the music of Leonard Bernstein), The Man and the Echo (set to Evard Grieg,
based on the poem by W. B. Yeats) and Dark Lover (set to L.V. Beethoven),
challenging dance/drama works, A Twist of Fate (set to music by Australian
composer Elena Kats-Chernin) and Like Being Awake Sleeping and Hearing
Seeing (a Max Ernst-ian daydream set to the electronica of DJs Sasha and
Digweed).
The
Occasions Collections
Audience favorites MoonDogg- A Celebration of Cleveland and the Birth
of Rock n Roll and The Little Prince (dance-musical), based on the novel
by Antoine de St. Exupery are suitable for special events, site specific
programs, and unusual performance venues.
Choreographic
Competition
Verb Ballets holds an international competition annually for choreographic
presentation and premiere in Cleveland. Contact the office manager for
