Children’s Ballets

The Nutcracker- A Children’s Version
The beloved ballet tells the story of a little girl named Clara who is given a magical nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve. She encounters the frightful Rat King before embarking on a wondrous journey through the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. A wonderful ballet for the entire family, The Nutcracker is the perfect way to ring in the holiday season and to introduce young children to the power and beauty of classical dance. The version with exciting dancing and beautiful costumes is perfect for small community theatre.

Peter Pan, choreographed by Pamela Pribisco
Verb Ballets is excited to announce the premiere of Peter Pan choreographed by Pamela Pribisco (Cleveland Ballet).  During this 45-minute ballet, costumed dancers engage children in the enchanting tale of Peter, a boy who refuses to grow up.  When Peter loses his shadow in the home of the Darling family, he makes new friends and and invites them to travel to Neverland. This all ages favorite is complete with Tinkerbell, Captain Hook, a ticking crocodile and other interesting characters, plus breathtaking sets straight from Europe. Follow along on this magical journey, past the second star to the right and straight on 'til morning, as this classic tale comes to life through dance.

The Carnival of the Animals, choreographed by Richard Dickinson
The Carnival of the Animals has been acclaimed as the perfect introductory classical piece for young children ages 3-11. During this 30-minute ballet, costumed dancers delight children through movements inspired by the animals they portray. Richard Dickinson (Ohio Ballet) has taken the music of Camille Saint-Saens and uses it to tell the story of the Cuckoo Bird who is made fun of by the different animals. They learn to appreciate each other's differences as the beautiful Swan teaches tolerance and acceptance followed by a grand carnival ending the ballet. The animals include lions, hens and roosters, turtles, elephants, kangaroos, a school of fish, a flock of birds and more!

Peter and the Wolf, choreographed by Pamela Pribisco
Peter and the Wolf is a playful 30-minute children’s ballet set to music of Sergie Prokofiev choreographed by Pamela Pribisco (Cleveland Ballet). In 1936, Prokofiev composed Peter and the Wolf as a way to introduce children to the different instruments of the orchestra. Verb Ballets performs the story of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf as told through dance. The program introduces students to the plot and characters of Peter and the Wolf, and to the central themes of obedience and courage. Eight dancers develop each colorful character through expressive movement. Students experience storytelling through the interaction of narrative, music and movement, and gain understanding of how character and plot are communicated across multiple art forms.
