Verb Ballets Summer Intensive June 18, 2016

Verb Ballets is excited to offer a Summer Intensive on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at The University of Akron. This dance intensive includes classes in ballet, modern, jazz and hip-hop. These classes are recommended for all students ages 10+ and are open to all dancers who would like to attend from local studios, colleges or community. Cost is $75 and includes full day dance intensive with lunch and snacks. Or a half day option for $45 select from the morning with ballet/modern or afternoon jazz/hip-hop. Pre-registration required.

Intensive Schedule with Dance Professionals

Classical Ballet with Pamela Pribisco 10:00-11:30 am
The class will work on grace, precision of movement and elaborate formal gestures, steps and poses. Coordination, strength, flexibility, rhythm and musicality are all emphasized. Emphasis is on correct body placement and developing a love of dance.

Pamela Pribisco was a principal dancer with the Cleveland Ballet for ten years. She served as Ballet Mistress for the Cleveland Ballet, American Ballroom Theater, and Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, for which she choreographed and staged numerous pieces in their repertoire. Pribisco has been Company Teacher for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Company Teacher and Ballet Mistress for Complexions Contemporary Ballet. She has choreographed original productions of Peter Pan and Peter and the Wolf for young audiences and has written articles for Pointe Magazine advising young dancers on their careers. She teaches annually at The School at Jacob's Pillow and guest teaches nationally.

Horton Techinque with Omar Humphrey 11:45-1:00 pm
This class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns.

Omar Humphrey a Dallas native, Omar began his training at the age of fourteen with Happy Nia Dance Theater Productions at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters. A graduate from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, he received training through scholarship from Dallas Black Dance Theater, LINES Contemporary Ballet, Bates Dance Festival, Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and camp, and as a fellowship student at the Ailey School. Omar is a recipient of the Dance Council of North Texas Charles Kulp Memorial Scholarship. He has performed in some of Dallas’s major theaters and has also appeared on GOOD MORNING TEXAS. Omar received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma where he had the unique opportunity to perform works by Alvin Ailey, Jessica Lange, Donald McKayle and José Limon. This is Omar’s first season with Verb Ballets.

Broadway Jazz with Jimmy Kichler 1:45-3:15 pm
This class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns.

Jimmy Kichler has been a teacher and choreographer in New York City for the past twenty-five years. Jimmy taught at world-renowned dance studio STEPS for over a decade and has taught master classes around the country and the world, including teaching and choreography gigs in Japan, Switzerland, Italy, France. Favorite choreography credits includes "Red Memories" for New York Stage and Film (director Roger Rees), re-choreographing the tap solo for "The Champion Roper" in "Rodeo" for American Ballet Theatre, and choreographic supervisor for Williamstown Theatre Festival (Mr. Rees, Artistic Dir.). Jimmy assisted Broadway choreographer/director Randy Skinner on a film project (among Randy Skinner's credits: 42nd Street revival, White Christmas, State Fair, Dames at Sea). Jimmy acted as the personal dance assistant for Academy Award winning director Stanley Donen on his film "Bye, Bye Blues". On the "other side of the table", Jimmy worked as a casting assistant for Laura Stanczyk Casting (Ragtime) and as an talent agent assistant at Luedtke Talent. 

Hip-Hop with Stephaen Hood 3:15-4:30 pm
Using elements of hip-hop, jazz and contemporary, the class creates challenging and fun routines with a focus on dynamics and performance.

Stephaen Hood is a graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a B.F.A. in Ballet Performance. He has been studying dance and has trained at numerous ballet institutions such at Mid Atlantic Youth Ballet, Rock School For Dance Education, and the University of The Arts in PA as a Ballet Major. He has also trained in a vast amount of studies such as Horton, Balanchine, Forsythe and jazz dance. He was a principal dancer for the Mid Atlantic Youth Ballet Company and company member for Ballet-Fleming. He has also been a guest artist in various companies such as Poetic Expression Dance Company and Carbon Dance Theater. He has also performed lead roles in ballets such as Coppelia, La Bayadere, and The Nutcracker. He is happy to have embarked on this journey with Verb Ballets and is excited to expand his mind as an artist. This is Stephaen’s second season with Verb Ballets.
